assage technique from Japan. In fact the word
Shiatsu means =ECfinger pressure.=EE Despite its name this massage
therapy not only utilizes the fingertips but also thumbs,
palms, knees, forearms, elbows and the massage therapist can
even use the feet. They apply pressure to the meridians or
energy lines. This is done to =ECpromote good health by
stimulating the body’s energy flow.=EE

Sessions can take from 40-60 minutes and will be done on a
padded mat on the floor. It commences with gentle stretching
and manipulation to help relax and stimulate the movement of
energy in the muscles. Pressure can either stimulate or calm
the patient. The specific needs of the patient will determine
the amount of pressure that needs to be applied.

In order to gain the most from this form of massage therapy it
is wise to wear thin, loose fitting, comfortable clothing.
Cotton and linen is recommended. You should also be aware that
you will be lying on the floor.

Doing The Right Exercise Training Program To Lose Weight And Build Muscle

Monday, January 29th, 2007

r to be one of the inevitabilities of life is a
splendid and beautiful exercise training program. Yes, you
heard me right, and everyone surely needs one.

The only difference is that mine may differ significantly from
yours, and what matters is to adopt one that suits you and your
body frame.

If you have not started the process, it is never too late to
begin. No one cares if you are a youngster in his twenties and
in his prime who feels he is immortal because nothing can be
farther from the truth.

This is why it is crucial to look for alternative and effective
exercise training program. Anyone who is in the dark about where
to start the process should follow my path; log on to the
internet and sort through the endless options available.

Recently, I was watching a boring television show titled
=ECCelebrity Fit Club=EE. A lady called Carnie Wilson disclosed
that exercise scares her stiff, something I find very pathetic,
because what on earth is there in exercises that should scare
people?

I mean it is not a case of asking people to plunge head-on into
a battle. What we are referring to here is a simple exercise
training program, which to me is a harmless activity.

Thus I naturally took this to be the biggest cop-out in the
long history of the globe. That might sound a little too big,
but I guess you got the drift.

The show also features famous people and their lifestyles, and
you guess right because they don’t do anything. Many of them
are has-beens who simply relax all day.

Now you see why we wonder what makes it difficult for these
people to incorporate an exercise training program into their
itinerary. And what makes the situation more appalling is the
fact that many people look up to celebrities. In my opinion,
most of them are a whiny bunch.

The only advice I have for anyone who hasn’t seen the perfect
exercise training program that will suit their peculiar need is
to get cracking right away. The reality is that the years are
drifting by slowly as you linger about the choice you want and
yet you are getting out of shape.

If you ask me, this surely is not a way to live. It is crucial
to take proper care of your body as you advance in age so that
it will continue to function very well even when you attain
what is now known as the golden years.

I am sure you don’t want to be like one of those old coots who
find it difficult to take a walk down the street without
tripping and breaking a hip in the process.

There is no better time to start a diet and exercise training
program, so get cracking right away.

More Evidence That Green Tea Reduces Prostate Cancer Risk

Golden Moon Tea

Only skin cancer is more common in men than prostate cancer. Each
year, more than 200,000 men are diagnosed with this disease, and
it is the third leading cause of cancer death in men.

But, recently there has been more and more information to suggest
that drinking green tea may reduce a man’s risk of getting
prostate cancer. Studies both in laboratory animals and humans
have shown that green tea is a powerful cancer preventer, of both
prostate and other forms of cancer.

One study is particularly interesting. This study, reported by
the UK Tea Council studied a group of 62 men who were already at
a high risk of developing prostate cancer. 32 of the men were
given green tea for one year; the other 30 were not.

The patients were between the ages of 45 and 75 years of age, and
all had been diagnosed with pre-malignant lesions that are the
pre-cursor to prostate cancer. More than one third of men with
such lesions will normally develop prostate cancer within one
year. The subjects were given no other treatment for the lesions
other than the green tea or placebo.

When the subjects were re-evaluated one year later, only one out
of the 32 men who were given green tea had developed prostate
cancer. In the control group, nine out of 30 had gone on to
develop the disease.

The study concluded that green tea’s anti-oxidants have the
power to actually kill off prostate cancer cells, leaving the
healthy cells in tact. Green tea induces a state of apoptosis; a
systematic killing off of body cells. Apoptosis occurs regularly
in the body, helping to ensure that our healthiest cells are
those that survive, but it is rare to find a substance outside
the body that can induce such activity.

This is just more evidence to support what researchers have
believed for some time now -green tea prevents cancer. There have
been numerous other studies that have come to the same
conclusion, both for prostate cancer and for other forms of
cancer, too.

At least one other study has shown that green tea prevents
prostate cancer. Another set of research showed that green tea
appears to have the ability to act as a scavenger against a
substance called Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). ROS are a form of
free radicals that contribute to the development of prostate
cancer, when they are produced in excess. The study showed that
the particular anti-oxidants in green tea were effective at
eradicating the ROS cells before they could turn into cancer
cells.

There have also been quite a few studies that suggest that green
tea can prevent other forms of cancer. For example, one study
showed that women who consumed green tea were significantly less
likely to develop ovarian cancer, and that the more tea they
drank, the lower their risk.

There are also several bodies of research that indicate that
green tea may prevent breast cancer. There have also been several
studies showing that breast cancer may even be helpful for women
who already have breast cancer. One study noted that one group of
breast cancer patients, those with high Her -2/neu readings, were
significantly affected by drinking green tea.

Her-2/neu is a growth factor that sometimes presents itself in a
tumor. An over expression of this growth factor is a concern for
breast cancer patients, because it indicates a higher risk for
the cancer spreading and an overall lower survival rate. Drinking
green tea appears to slow the growth and spread of the cancer in
mice with a high Her-2/neu reading.

Another study on breast cancer patients showed that chemotherapy
is more effective when it is administered along with green tea.
The green tea appears to increase the concentration level of the
cancer drugs in the cancerous cells, so that they have a greater
effect.

Green tea has even been shown to be effective in treating skin
cancer. Another study showed excellent results in skin cancer
prevention and treatment in mice with the use of green tea both
applied topically and given orally. The study found that green
tea applied topically seems to scavenge and destroy skin cells
that are likely to become cancerous before they can mutate. The
mice also showed a lower risk of skin cancer when given green tea
orally.

So, as you can see, there is a lot of evidence to suggest that
green tea is effective at preventing cancer. It is also likely
that green tea may be an effective treatment for some forms of
cancer, too.

It’s clear that we need far more research on green tea before we
have a conclusive understanding of what green tea can do and how
it works. However, it does appear to be clear that there is much
promise in green tea for the future of cancer prevention and
treatment.

So, if you’re at a high risk for developing prostate cancer, or
any other cancer, adding green tea to your diet is a wise choice.
Green tea has no side effects, and it may be able to
significantly lower your risk of several forms of cancer.

ís Influence On Chemotherapy

Monday, January 29th, 2007

everal years, there has been an abundance of
research on the effects of green tea and its possible ability
to prevent cancer. There has been a lot of focus on Asian
culture, where the incidence of cancer is significantly lower
that that of the Western world.

For centuries, the Chinese have used green tea for health. It
is used not only to protect health and slow down the aging
process, but also to treat illness. It appears that there is
some very good science behind what Asians have been relying on
for years.

Tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant. There are many
different types of tea, but they all come from the same plant.
The differences occur from the differences in how the tea is
processed. Green tea is not fermented during processing, but
black tea does go through a fermentation process.

Tea leaves naturally contain catechins, which belong to the
flavan-3-ol class of flavonoids, which are anti-oxidants. EGCG
is one of the catechins contained in tea, and is one of the
most powerful anti-oxidants around.

Fermenting the tea leaves, converts the catechins to other
compounds. These new compounds are not as healthy as the
unaltered catechins in a tea leaf in its original state. For
this reason, green tea has more healthy anti-oxidants and
therefore more health benefits than black tea.

Each day, as we convert food to energy, we create free radicals
in our body. These free radicals can damage our cells and our
DNA if we don’t combat them. It is believed that unchecked free
radicals contribute to the development of cancer. They also
speed up the aging process and contribute to clogged arteries
and other maladies that plague us as we get older.

Anti-oxidants are powerful free radical combatants, and are
linked with preventing cancer, as well as with decreasing your
risk of stroke and heart disease and with lowering your
cholesterol. For this reason, drinking green tea is a simple
and effective way to slow down the aging process and prevent
disease.

But, recently there has been even more powerful news about the
possible effects of green tea on cancer. Many studies have been
conducted on mice that were already diagnosed with the disease.
In some cases, the studies have shown that green tea can help
kill cancer cells or slow down the progression of the disease.

One particular study of interest was conducted by the School of
Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Shizuoka in Japan.
In this study, mice that were infected with carcinoma tumors
were fed green tea along with a chemotherapy drug called
doxorubicin. The doxorubicin had more than doubled the
effectiveness in the mice that were also fed green tea than in
the mice who received their doxorubicin treatments alone.

The tumors showed a higher concentration of the drug itself in
the tumor tissue when the mice ingested green tea. As an
interesting side note; normal tissue did not show a higher
concentration of the drug as a result of the green tea – only
the cancerous tissue.

This may be good news, too. Since chemotherapy is known to have
many side effects and to sometimes damage normal tissue as it’s
killing cancer cells, this is important. Because the
concentration of the drug is not higher in normal cells, the
drug’s side effects might not increase with the use of green
tea as an adjunct to therapy.

These same results were found in patients who had ovarian
sarcoma, too. This news is important because ovarian sarcoma is
usually very resistant to doxorubicin. So, it appears that when
used with green tea, doxorubicin may become an effective
treatment for ovarian sarcoma.

In another study, adriamycin, another popular cancer drug was
also found to be more effective at treating ovarian sarcoma
when it was paired with green tea. Rats in this study that were
not fed green tea were found to be unresponsive to the drug, but
when the drug was administered along with green tea, the rats
became very responsive to the treatment.

There’s a second component of these studies that may have a
positive effect on cancer patients. During chemotherapy,
patients are often advised not to drink coffee or tea, due to
its caffeine. This can be difficult for patients who are used
to these beverages, as it disrupts their daily routine.
Allowing patients to consume green tea during treatment could
provide a positive emotional boost to patients.

In addition to helping to keep a patient’s daily routine normal
by allowing tea as a morning beverage, patients may feel a sense
of control of their own destiny when they understand that
drinking green tea can help improve the effectiveness of their
cancer treatment. This ability to have a hand in their
treatment can be a very powerful tool for cancer patients,
since this insidious disease often makes people feel out of
control of their own life.

Of course, as with many other early results, more research is
needed. However, the news is very promising in the fight
against cancer. We are likely only beginning to understand the
many ways in which green tea can help preserve our health and
prevent and fight disease. There is little doubt that we will
find more uses for this healthy beverage and its components.

Day Spas: What Do They Offer?

Monday, January 29th, 2007

erm day spas sounds like it means that you’ll be
relaxing in a hot spa, that’s not necessarily the case. These
spas actually provide a wide range of services each of which
will be well worth your visit. You can even combine the
services that they provide to get more in, sometimes at a
discount. Many spas offer a number of different choices. Some
will not offer one technique and others will offer more. This
depends on the company and the equipment that they have. Of
course, you should always ask if they offer what you are
looking for as they simply may not advertise it.

What you’ll find when you come into the day spas generally
offers a number of choices. Consider these, for example.

- Massage. Probably the most sought after reason to visit a day
spa is to get a massage in. There are many different types and
again, the choices will vary from one location to the next.
But, what you want to know and realize is that a massage can be
a wonderful choice for relaxation, de-stressing and improving
your muscle control and health.

- Skin care. Many day spas offer skin care selections. This
will range from having a waxing done to having a number of
facials and full body masks. There are various types of these
and each will provide something beneficial to your skin.

- Hydrotherapy. Yes, water is a great thing for those that are
looking for a way to relax or even to improve the physical
condition of their body. You’ll find that hydrotherapy is a
great choice for those that want to relax and get away from it
all.

While each spa may be a bit different from the next, each
offers something that is extraordinary in its quality. Simply,
you’ll love day spas that much more when you actually visit
them for all of your needs.

Keeping Your Wedding Safe & Stress Free

Monday, January 29th, 2007

wedding insurance? Most brides and grooms have
probably never heard of it, or they scoff at the idea of
insuring their wedding. However, purchasing some short-term
wedding insurance can be a way of saving yourself a lot of
grief if your wedding is cancelled or someone gets injured at
your reception.

What Types of Wedding Insurance are Available?
Brides and grooms can opt to purchase two types of wedding
insurance. There is wedding cancellation insurance and also
wedding liability insurance. Wedding cancellation insurance
provides coverage should your wedding be cancelled due to bad
weather, and officiant not showing up, and more. It protects
your deposits, attire, photographs, etc.

The other type of wedding insurance is wedding liability
insurance, which protects you if there is injury or property
damage that occurs at your wedding. This type of wedding
insurance is more common, as many venues require that couples
obtain this insurance.

When to Purchase Wedding Insurance?
If you are considering purchasing wedding insurance, you should
plan on purchasing the coverage as soon as you start shopping
for dresses and venues. Most companies do not allow you to
purchase a policy until 24 months before the wedding, and most
will allow you to purchase the insurance up to 15 days prior to
your wedding date.

What Policies Usually Cover
While these items are usually covered by wedding insurance
policies, you should still read over your policy before signing
to make sure all the items you need covered are included:

- Weather
- Illness/Injury
- Missing Officiant
- Missing Vendors
- Location

Other riders:
- Military Service
- Gowns and Tuxedos
- Gifts
- Liability
- Honeymoon

Usually not covered:
- Cancellation due to cold feet
- Cancellation due to something you knew prior to taking out
the policy

Should You Purchase a Policy
Some people laugh when they first hear about wedding insurance,
thinking it is just another way for couples to spend money.
However, in most cases weddings cost thousands of
dollars/pounds. That money is often non-refundable if the
unthinkable happens, and some couples find great peace of mind
in knowing that they will not be out thousands if their wedding
is cancelled.

ñ The Three Basic Responses.

Monday, January 29th, 2007

re are three main forms of response to stress.
The first is the =ECflight or fight=EE response as a result of
which is another form of response to stress as a result of
chronic stress, and the third one has to do with our perception
of imminent stress. This is also referred to as emotional
response.

The first way we respond to stress is borne out of immediate
shock and the feeling of been threatened. The entire body
mechanism begins to work as hormones are released to keep us
going in the =EBflight or fight’ response. When we feel
threatened or face any conflict or combat, hormones are release
to enable us face the situation. Your heart rate and blood
pressure is lightened by the hormones and additional sugar and
oxygen is channeled to your muscles and blood is withdrawn from
your skin in order to curb excessive loss of blood if injury
occurs. The brain works fast concentrating on the situation
facing us and the muscle is coolled down by sweat which
increase at this period. A sudden occurrence of such threat
resulting in our heart pounding always draw this kind of
response.

The second response to stress often move through stages from
the reaction stage, to the resistance stage and finally to the
resignation or exhaustion stage. After the reaction to event or
threat stage, the next stage is for the body to put up a
resistance for as long as possible. If the stress persist, the
body eventually gives in and drifts into the exhaustion or
resignation stage. This often result in chronic fatigue
problems and inertia. The body learns to cope with stress in
this way and if there is no eruption motivating factor along
the way, we become completely fed up with our daily routine.

The third response to stress is the mind response to stress.
This could be some stressors that push us to work harder and
harder and possibly without the resources to meet up this
demand. The end result is unhappiness and the likelihood of
depression. Such stressors which could keep persisting could
include pressure at work to meet one deadline or the other,
conflict between supervisors and colleagues and unpleasant
working conditions.

When we face stress, especially threats that are not really on
our life’s but more of a challenge to our worth, threat to our
social status or how the society sees us, we have two main
feelings. First, the fear of not been able to face imminent
threat and second the feeling of being seriously threatened.
Which ever way, reducing response to stress and getting back to
normal will require us to change our outlook on stressors and
make it seem less of a threat. After all, it is not as if such
stress is instantly choking life out of you.

Golf Swing Teaching Aids Friend Or Foe

Monday, January 29th, 2007

ers are generally always looking for one
thing, how to improve their game in a hurry. Exactly how can
you accomplish this? There’s really only one way to do this and
it’s with a good training schedule and the right golf teaching
aids. The market today is just flooded with different teach
aids, some of which help, some of which are more gimmick then
instructor. The most important thing you can do before
purchasing one of these golf teaching aids is knowing where
your strengths and weaknesses are. Other wise you could end up
shelling out a lot of money each season for new tools to help
you improve but they aren’t helping you with the right things.

Choose the right Golf Teaching Aid from them all

So how do you choose? Some choose according to what they can
afford, while others look for the most popular golf
instructional tool. You can easily be sold on the latest and
greatest instructional tool with the right TV infomercial, but
that doesn’t mean it’s where you should spend your money.
Knowing where your game needs the most improvement will make
all the difference in whether you waste your money, or drop
your handicap.

Asking friends, and others you golf with is an ideal
opportunity to get a third party review of where you need work
on your game. Recognizing your own flaws can be tough at first,
but getting some feed back from others will get you looking in
the right direction. If you have ever taken a lesson asking an
instructor what golf swing teaching aid could help improve your
game as well would yield useful information.

When shopping if you’re at a pro shop you should be able to try
out the aid prior to purchasing. Give it a try and see if it
will actually help correct that part of your game that needs
help. Only once you’re 100% sure that this teaching aid focuses
where you need it should you make your purchase decision.

Keep in mind that just about everything to do with golf
including balls are expensive. So doing your homework up front,
and avoiding purchasing numerous training aids that won’t help
you with your game will be a lot easier on your wallet and your
garage that will become full of the unused gimmicks you buy each
season. Not to mention, if you don’t require assistance with a
part of your game a golf swing teaching aid could do more harm
then good. Un-learning particular parts of technique and
mechanics can be harder then learning them in the first place.

5 Quick Techniques To Relieve Stress With A Massage

Monday, January 29th, 2007

the most natural remedies possible. In fact,
at times, it is even out instinct to massage. If you have a
sore neck, the first thing you will be to touch and rub it.
It’s the same with hurting a body part. One of the first things
a person does is touch it. Massage is also one of the best ways
to maintain good health. Aches, sleeplessness, and tension can
all be treated with simple massage. Touching is the basis of
massage. Without the human touch, people can become depressed.
Infants deprived of touch develop slowly, and have health
difficulties. Children who are raised in touching families are
healthier, sleep better, and demonstrate more happiness with
their lives. We are, however, unlikely to touch each other
because of the feelings of love associated with touch. Massage
removes these taboos and allows positive, healthy touching.
There are five great massages that will have you feeling up to
speed in no time.

The shoulders are a great place to begin a self massage. Most
people suffer from stiff necks and shoulder aches at some time.
These problems can frequently lead to headaches and poor
posture. Start by touching your left shoulder with your right
hand. Begin with the bottom of your skull, work down your neck,
your shoulder, and work toward the left hand. Go back to your
neck at least four times during the course of the massage. Then
do the other side with your left hand. Then make circular
movements with your fingers. Press hard, doing these circular
movements, on both sides of the spine. Do the same thing all
the way up the neck, and around the bottom of the skull.
Squeeze and release, several times, the area around your
shoulder and upper arms. Very lightly hammer your shoulders
with your fists, one at a time, to energize the area. You can
complete this quick massage by stroking your hands, then move
to stroking your face. Slowly move toward your chin, you neck,
and finally, finish with your shoulders again. This is a great
one for removing stress and tension.

Another quick massage that may make your day go a bit faster is
the legs. A leg massage can be very helpful in the course of a
long day. It can also be very nice after a tough exercise
period. First, rest your foot flat on the ground. Beginning at
the foot, stroke the entire length of your leg. Be sure to do
both sides. Repeat this at least three times for both legs.
Next, pay careful attention to the thigh. Kneading it regularly
can improve the texture and shape. Very lightly hammer your
thighs with your fists, one at a time, to energize the area.
This should help if you’ve been sitting for an extended period
of time. Massage your knees, front and back. Use your fingers
to make hard circular movements around the kneecaps. Finally,
knead your calf muscles. Finish the massage by lightly stroking
the area.

Massaging your feet can invigorate and be a help to your whole
body. While we all enjoy a foot massage from someone we care
about, it’s quite simple to massage your own feet. Place one
hand under your foot and the other on top of your foot. Stroke
the entirety of your foot three to four times. Next, begin
working on each toe. With one hand, grab an individual toe,
pull it, knead it lightly, and squeeze gently. Use your fingers
to make hard circular movements around the arch and the ball of
the foot. Knuckle the entirety of the foot with one hand in a
circular movement. Stroke and rub the ankle. Finish by lightly
stroking the entire area.

A hand massage can also be very relaxing. Start by stroking all
of the hand. Then squeeze the hand all over. Take each finger
and squeeze and rub it individually. Make hard circular motions
over the joint of your thumb and your knuckles. Use your thumb
to rub the tendons in the back of your hand. Work across the
palm of your hand making hard circular motions with your thumb.
The best way to finish the massage is by gently motioning the
entire hand.

One final quick massage that will improve your day is an
abdominal massage. This can improve digestion and stimulate
weight loss. Start by using your fingertips to knead the waist
from one side to the other. Then knead the sides with your
hand. Finish by placing the flat of your hand on one side of
your abdomen and pushing it to the other side. Repeat this
motion about ten times.

Massage is a quick way to relieve everyday stress all over the
body.
