Conquering Your Stress

Monday, February 26th, 2007

lk about beating, winning=D6 conquering stress instead of
just managing your stress with some simple and easy to implement
personal techniques.

If stress is weighing heavily on you=D6 many times it’s because
you never take the time for yourself to decompress.

Yoga, Tai-Chi and other similar disciplines have been around
and have been quite effective in relieving bottled up stress
from within you body. These techniques not only help relax your
thoughts, but they also help you to get into shape=D6 being out of
shape is a very prominent contributing factor in building
stress.

Even if these Far East disciplines aren’t your cup of tea,
consider taking some classes or get some information on the art
of meditation. Meditation is very easy to learn, and has
numerous benefits. Not only is this a great way to relax, it
only takes but a few minutes a day for you to learn how to
effectively drain the stress from your body. Learning the art
of meditation and focus will help your mind move away from that
which is causing your stress and teach you how to relax and stay
relaxed.

Even something as simple as engaging in deep breathing
exercises can be an excellent step in the right stress
reduction direction. Lessening the symptoms of stress is the
first step in permanently curing the effects of stress on your
both physically and mentally.

Be sure to check your eating habits as well. Healthy eating
habits can be very helpful in reducing how your body reacts to
the daily grind and stresses. Do some research on diet and
foods that help to raise the level of serotonin levels in your
body. Be mindful that there are a lot =EBpills’ on the market
that claim to do this; but are in fact quite worthless=D6 so keep
your focus on the foods you eat and your diet.

As far as drugs and stress are concerned, there are some mild
drugs such as sleeping aids that can assist you in getting a
good night’s sleep and be helpful on occasion. The risk with
this approach is that you at the least become =EBimmune’ to the
helpful effects=D6 or worse=D6 you develop a dependency on them=D6
not so much in a narcotic sense but that you’ll get into a
habit of =EBhaving’ to take them.

Other techniques such as aroma therapy or mood music have also
proved helpful for many. These two techniques are basically the
root of meditation in which you just take time to relax and
change your focus from the stress agent. If these techniques
work for you, then by all means they are worth using and
certainly can no harm.

And finally, if I haven’t hit upon anything yet that you think
will help pull that stress from your body=D6 go get a good
massage. Many times an underlying contributor to your stress
can be muscular tension and soreness. Combine a massage in
conjunction with some relaxing music and you may just find that
this is the ticket.

No matter what stress reduction program you implement, the key
is to consistently give yourself the time of day for a stress
break=D6 a focus change=D6 a mental vacation. If you do this,
you’ll soon find that you’ll get better and more efficient at
your stress breaks and you’ll be able to more naturally relieve
your stress.

Why Superfoods Are Important For Weight Loss And Energy

Monday, February 26th, 2007

50-75 years our soils have slowly become
depleted. We can no longer rely on our normal diet to supply
the RDA of the vitamins and minerals our bodies need.
Nutrients such as vitamins, proteins, enzymes and amino acids,
are required for our bodies to function properly. These
nutrients are dependent upon minerals. Minerals are
predominantly obtained from the food we eat, and the mineral
content of that food is dependent upon the mineral content of
the soil it grows in. Add to that the increase in pollutants
and toxins entering our food from our environment and you have
a severe shortage of optimal health and well being. It is no
wonder there is an obesity epidemic and untold amounts of
disease in our culture.

We have been able to track and study the mineral levels in our
soil and in our foods for about one hundred years. As early as
1936 (Senate Document 264) we recognized that our soils were
becoming depleted. According to Senate Document 264 (1936) it
states:
“The alarming fact is that foods (fruits, vegetables and
grains) now being raised on millions of acres of land that no
longer contain enough of certain minerals are starving us – no
matter how much of them we eat. No man of today can eat enough
fruits and vegetables to supply his system with the minerals he
requires for perfect health because his stomach isn’t big enough
to hold them.”

The 1992 Earth Summit soil mineral depletion report showed soil
depletion in North America to be at 85 percent, the highest in
the world. Nutrition in this country is just like global
climate change. Economics play a larger role in decision
making than planning for our children’s futures.

There are two reasons are soils have become so depleted and the
nutritional value of our foods have fallen. One, is that
today’s agriculture does not allow to regenerate the soil. We
rely on chemical fertilizers to only replace three or four
minerals. Phosphorous, Potassium and Nitrogen are the main
ingredients in our fertilizers. The second reason our foods
are less nutritious than fifty years ago is that fruits and
vegetables are picked while they are still green and have not
have the chance to extract all of the nutrients from the soil.
They are harvested green so that they ripen on the way to market
(your grocery store.) Many times fruits and vegetables have to
travel thousands of miles from farm to factory and finally to
the store. They are harvested while still green to enable them
to last longer in storage, but it also leaves insufficient time
for the plant to fully absorb whatever minerals are available in
the soil, and to synthesize vitamins and other nutrients. The
ripening process continues, cut off from the soil and sun, in
box and storage depot, often for weeks, resulting in further
losses of vitamins and other essential nutrients.

All of this results in mineral deficient bodies, from which
comes an abundance of health problems and degenerative
diseases. A few of the major symptoms and illness linked to
mineral deficiencies are osteoporosis, bone and muscle
weakness, lack of focus and energy, glucose intolerance, poor
wound healing, poor hair, skin and nails, and liver problems. A
lack of minerals can also lead to weight gain, as a deficiency
leaves your body craving minerals and never feeling satiated.

That is why you see one popular Superfood in may diet products
on the shelves today, Spirulina. Spirulina combats excessive
hunger by providing the body with quality protein, vitamins,
and minerals. Spirulina, because it is very dense in nutrients,
it is a wonderful energy booster and is known to help curb
cravings and lower cholesterol.

Other Superfoods like chlorella help absorb heavy metals like
mercury out of your system. It acts as a natural detoxifier.
Look for Superfoods such as berries high in anti-oxidant
ratings like Acai, Mangosteen and Gogi. Wheat grass, barley
and other seaweed vegetables are great choices because of their
nutrient content when adding Superfoods to your diet.

Superfoods are an excellent way to make up for dietary
deficiencies. Even if you are eating a 100% organic diet you
will still not be able to get all the nutrients you need
because of depleted soils.

The Spiritual Power Of Quiting

Monday, February 26th, 2007

;re faced with an insoluble problem do you ever think
of quitting? I’m not talking about =ECThat’s it! I quit,=EE as a
general approach to life. I’m talking about something more
profound.
If you’re like me, you were raised never to quit. You were
trained to push on, regardless of the odds, and finish
everything you started. If you couldn’t fix a situation, you’d
live with it, no matter how it hurt.

I was raised in a family with favorites and not-favorites, good
guys and bad. Roles could switch fast; you had to hustle to keep
out of trouble. The roles I chose were =ECfavorite=EE and =ECgood.=EE I
went through school and did very well, got good jobs, pleased
my bosses and generally excelled. I never realized that my life
was about playing roles, avoiding the pain of rejection.

Liberation occurs in wondrous and uncomfortable ways. After
finishing my master’s in Marriage, Family, and Child
Counseling, I did an internship at a treatment center for
runaway adolescents. It was a rough place serving disturbed
kids and their families.

One day, I took a call from an upset parent, handling it
according to protocol. When I came back the next day, the phone
rang. The same parent was on the line, far more upset. Her child
had run away from the center–and she blamed me. Our first
conversation had been difficult–this time she lobbed verbal
grenades while I tried to dodge. She roasted me.

When the bombardment was over, I had a profound realization: I
would never win with her. I couldn’t say, =ECI’m Sandy Nathan.
I’ve gotten straight A’s forever, I’m a superstar. Give me a
chance.=EE No. I was dog excrement to her and would be eternally.

It was shocking–I couldn’t win, no matter how hard I tried. I
also understood why her kid ran away. In a hopeless situation,
running away is an intelligent choice.

Since then, I’ve learned that the deep knowing that, =ECI am
never going to win here,=EE is a gift. It comes after I’ve
applied every skill and remedy I possess and is a signal to
begin withdrawal. Many spiritual teachers talk about =ECthe power
of letting go.=EE My meditation teacher used to say, =ECFreedom
follows renunciation.=EE When you formally reject or disavow
something, you become free. When I say, =ECI quit!=EE I refer to
the same concepts.

Quitting has two primary steps. First, the mental, =ECThis is no
good for me. I quit.=EE And you walk away, inside at least.
Second, the exit strategy. If you’re making a big life change,
it may take years to complete your plan. If you walk away from
that poisonous situation, your rent or mortgage payments will
not change. You need to have a way of covering your expenses
lined up before you physically leave. If you’re in an abusive
situation, you need to make sure that you’re safe before you
leave. Do your homework.

Your connection to the Divine is the most important thing in
successful quitting. That connection will sustain you while you
go through the physical adjustments and mental permutations of
making a major life change. A regimen of spiritual practice is
essential. Prayer, meditation, positive thought, giving to your
source of spiritual support and living a disciplined life are
important while you’re getting ready. They’re crucial when you
make your move. Know that you are free, even as you take the
first baby steps out of the toxic dump. Keep going and you will
have a new life.

The Impact Of Stress

Monday, February 26th, 2007

ic stress can have a serious impact on a person’s
emotional or physical wellbeing and can be a significant
contributor to mental illness.

Stress is a term that refers to the sum of the physical,
mental, and emotional strains or tensions on a person. A
stressor is defined as a stimulus or event that provokes a
stress response in an organism. Stressors can be categorized as
acute or chronic.

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-IV-TR) defines a psychosocial stressor as “any life event
or life change that may be associated temporally (and perhaps
causally) with the onset, occurrence, or exacerbation
(worsening) of a mental disorder”.

Hans Selye (1907-1982), a Canadian researcher was a pioneer in
studying stress. Selye defined stress, in essence, as the rate
of wear and tear on the body. He observed that an increasing
number of people, particularly in the developed countries, die
of so-called diseases of civilization, or degenerative diseases
primarily caused by stress.

In humans, the biochemical response to acute stress is known as
the “fight-or-flight”activation of a section of the brain called
the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system, or HPA activates the
release of steroid hormones which include cortisol, the primary
stress hormone in humans. Neurotransmitters known as
catecholamines are released which have three effects:

1. They activate the amygdala, an almond-shaped structure in
the limbic system that triggers an emotional response to fear.

2. They signal the hippocampus, another part of the limbic
system, to store the emotional experience in longterm memory.

3. They suppress activity in parts of the brain associated with
short-term memory, concentration, and rational thinking. This
suppression allows a human to react quickly to a stressful
situation, but it also lowers the ability to deal with complex
social or intellectual tasks that may be part of the situation.

The body’s physical reaction to stress can cause heart rate and
blood pressure to rise, the person breathes more rapidly
allowing the lungs to take in more oxygen. Blood flow to the
muscles, lungs, and brain may increase by 300-400%. The spleen
releases more blood cells which increases the blood’s ability
to transport oxygen. The immune system redirects white blood
cells to the skin, bone marrow and lymph nodes; these are areas
where injury or infection is most likely to occur. In chronic
stress, the organ systems of the body do not have the
opportunity to return fully to normal levels. Different organs
become under or over activated on a long-term basis. In time,
these abnormal levels of activity can damage an organ or organ
system. Stress has negative effects on the Cardiovascular
system, the Gastrointestinal system, the Reproductive system
and the Musculoskeletal system.

The physical effects of stress on the brain include
interference with memory and learning. Acute stress interferes
with short-term memory, although this effect goes away after
the stress is resolved. People who are under severe stress
become unable to concentrate; they may become physically
inefficient, clumsy, and accident-prone. Chronic stress is a
reaction to a situation that is stressful but ongoing. Chronic
stress affects the human immune system and increases a person’s
risk of getting an infectious illness. Several research studies
have shown that people under chronic stress have lower than
normal white blood cell counts and are more vulnerable to colds
and influenza.

There are 2 major categories of mental disorders directly
related to stress-the-post-traumatic syndromes and adjustment
disorders. Stress is, however, also closely associated with
depression, and can worsen the symptoms of most other
disorders. Post traumatic stress disorder and Acute Stress
Disorder are defined by their temporal connection to a
traumatic event in the individual’s life.

Stress is related to substance abuse disorders in that chronic
stress frequently leads people to self-medicate with drugs of
abuse or alcohol. Substance abuse disorders are associated with
a specific type of strategy for dealing with stress called
emotion-focused coping. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual
of Mental Disorders defines adjustment disorders as
psychological responses to stressors that are excessive given
the nature of the stressor; or result in impairment of the
person’s academic, occupational, or social functioning. The
causes of stress may include any event or situation that a
person considers a threat to his or her resources or coping
strategies.

Acute stress is defined as a reaction to something perceived as
an immediate threat. Acute stress reactions can occur to a
falsely perceived danger as well as to a genuine threat; they
can also occur in response to memories. Social isolation and
loneliness can produce chronic stress. A study done in Norway
between 1987 and 1993 found that social support networks mad a
significant difference in lowering the impact of both acute and
chronic stress on mental health.

Another stress factor is sleep deprivation. Many people get
only six or less hours of sleep each night even though the
National Sleep Foundation estimates that most adults need
8-8-1/2 hours per night for good health. Fatigue due to sleep
deprivation causes additional stress.

Lastly, economic trends have produced a “Winner-take-all”
economy in which the gap between the well-off and the average
family is constantly widening. Socioeconomic status (SES)
affects health in a number of ways. Persons of higher SES can
afford better health care, are less likely to suffer from
exposure to environmental toxins, and generally lead healthier
lifestyles. In addition, chronic stress associated with low SES
appears to increase morbidity and mortality among persons in
these income groups.

The Costa Blanca, Spain, Is A Perfect Vacation Spot

Monday, February 26th, 2007

ay you approach the Costa Blanca, you will
have a good time. Come from the south, and you will first
encounter the beautiful towns of Pilar de la Horadada or
Torrevieja. These towns are the southernmost ones of the
Alicante Province, which straddles the Mediterranean Coast of
Spain. They, in turn, are a part of the Community of Valencia.
If you have brushed up on your Spanish, you will recognize that
Costa Blanca means “White Coast”, and nothing could be more
true. This section of the Spanish Mediterranean is awash in
white: white sugar sand beaches, buildings that look like they
were washed to pure white, and of course, the white sun,
bathing all of it. Villas such as Guardamar, Javea, Altea,
Benidorm, Torrevieja, Moraira and Alicante are the white jewels
that surround the Mediterranean Sea like a pearly necklace.

One of the best ways to approach the Costa Blanca is via
Alicante since it has a very large, international airport,
Altet. If you fly into Alicante, you can take a public bus, a
small rented bus or a taxi to your hotel in Alicante. You will
enjoy the setting of Alicante, which is at the foot of an
ancient hill, and a castle called Santa Barbara still stands
there. The town was built in 300 B.C. by the Carthaginians and
has survived almost intact, despite the many wars it has
endured. The castle today is home to a wonderful restaurant.

This area is surrounded by long beaches and an ancient
promenade which is beautifully tiled. The promenade is covered
with flowers and native palms, and these form a barrier between
the busy city and the quiet harbor. There are always crafts to
be viewed or purchased along this walkway, and in the summer,
you can be sure to find at least one band playing music that
seems composed solely to accompany the soft evening breezes.

If you want to learn more about the town and the region, visit
a book shop and pick up a guidebook. You will learn about the
many local festivals. A wonderful example is the Saint John
Bonfires, in which local and international figures are depicted
in cardboard or wooden facades and actually burnt down to
nothing. This replicates the pagan tradition of eliminating bad
spirits.

Another wonderful city in the region to visit is Benidorm, and
it is also very convenient to the Alicante airport. Picture a
vacation day where you have the choice of just stretching out
on a sunny beach or visiting a wonderful theme park with the
children. You can go to Terra Mitica, a theme park in the city
that replicates the attractions of Egypt and Rome, with rides
and attractions in that theme, or visit Aqualandia, a fabulous
water park practically in the middle of the city, where
everyone, old and young, can enjoy the water sports. If you are
interested in nature, how about Terra Natura, where you and your
children can visit with all sorts of wild animals? This
incredible park also has water rides, and even offers
underwater diving adventures, or nature walks or hiking.

We’re not leaving out the nightlife. Of course, there are
clubs, and there is a great selection of restaurants, fast food
or gourmet, to suit whatever your taste or your budget.

Your Beautiful Getaway To The Costa Blanca In Spain

Monday, February 26th, 2007

rific chance for sightseeing in Benidorm and the
Costa Blanca when you visit Spain. Mostly due to the fact that
the city is a major attraction in this area, plus the fact that
the city of Benidorm is located only about 45 kilometer outside
of Alicante, another likely prospect of attraction for you
while on your trip.

If you’re looking to have an amazing time during your trip, I
suggest you visit in the summer while the nightlife is at its
foremost, hosting 30 different discos and over 1000
restaurants. You’ll likely run out of things to do. You’ll
actually find and maybe even befriend many tourists from both
Ireland and the UK when you visit the region.

There are many special things that you can do on your
sightseeing trip through Benidorm. For instance, if you visit
the Castle of Conde de Alfaz, you’ll enjoy an amazing dinner
plus show that will feature live fighting and jousting by
knights on horseback. You can choose which night that you’ll
want to root for during the night by sitting in that knights
area located by color. As you’re watching the show, you’ll be
served a dinner from the Medieval Times which includes foods
such as pork ribs, soup and bread, roasted chicken and last but
not least beer and ice cream. Yum!

Another superb place of interest is Benidorm Palace. In this
particular hotspot you can enjoy a 3-hour floor show during the
evening on any Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday. The shows
include dancing, singing, comedy acts, as well as mysterious
magicians.

Of course everyone loves to go to the beach and there is
immense opportunity for this on most of the Costa Blanca area,
especially Benidorm. But even though Benidorm is good, even
better is the beach at Playa de Poniente. The reason of this
beaches popularity is because it lies off the main road and
therefore gets a ton of traffic. If you’re looking to just
relax in the sun, without all of the hustle bustle then you’ll
surely want to visit the Playa de Levante. This a quiet beach
where you can take a nice siesta and relax away your worries in
this quiet tranquil area.

If you’re up for a little adventure then go ahead and visit the
popular Aqualandia Park, Benidorms famous water park. You’ll be
able to enjoy swimming pools, as well as large windy
waterslides that will get your heart racing when riding such
slides as the Zig Zag and the Kamikaze. Both the older and
younger folks can enjoy this park with its many fountains,
slides, and beautiful swimming pools that will keep you nice
and cool.

All in all, in Benidorm you’ll certainly enjoy your time
whether or not it’s with the whole family on a much-needed
family getaway, or for just the adults, perhaps even a nice
little romantic getaway with your significant other. You cannot
go wrong visiting and sightseeing in Benidorm and throughout the
Costa Blanca.

Lose Weight, Don’t Lose Your Mind

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

n mean many things to many people. It could be an
answer to one person’s prayer, a symptom of illness for another.
However one views it, it remains to be one of the world’s more
universal contemporary topics on earth. You could bring
together a weight-conscious German woman and a weight-conscious
American together and despite the cultural barrier, they will
surely have a feast on interacting on this much debated and
worried-over topic.

In a world of instant items and more convenience, less physical
effort is needed. Instead of walking up a flight of stairs, one
can take the elevator. Instead of walking along the block to
buy milk from the grocer, there’s the car to save time and
energy. And food is so much more readily available these days.
I leave it to your discretion to say which foods are healthy
and which are no, but the truth of the matter is that there is
just so much efforts on convenience that it failed to take into
account to leave a reasonable amount of physical labor to keep
one’s self from getting obese or overweight.

Sitting in front of TV with an iced coffee and some bag of
chips can already mean 1000 calories. While the concept of
counting calories is such an unattractive concept especially if
you are used to satisfying your palate with all the good things
it can handle in one sitting, there are other alternatives to
make sure you get the desired amount of weight loss and not
look like a super-sized dinosaur.

For one thing, take some lessons from the French women. They
eat frequently but in small amounts only. Often, the bulge
problems come in when you eat a few but meaty meals. If you
diffuse your food intake during the entire day, it will be
burned most likely. To lessen one’s food intake at night can
also help. Your body at night is more sedentary and will
probably let what you ate at night to stay in your hips forever
if you don’t take action.

Losing weight can also be done by exercising regularly and
consistently. You don’t need a gym to be able to do so. You can
just make a few stretches here and there, but the most important
thing is that you ought to do it consistently. Otherwise, it
will not yield the results you want to have for yourself. Some
good forms of exercise include those with the element of play
in them such as belly dancing. It’s really about matching your
appetite with activities which will help you burn those
calories as instantly as you take them.

Make small choices everyday to lose weight more easily. And set
yourself more realistic goals so that you won’t get frustrated
and go back to poor eating habits. Instead of taking the
elevator, you can choose to take the stairs. It lends to your
creativity but for as long as you can exert some physical
efforts of sorts to yourself despite a demanding work day, you
will definitely find yourself with less pounds and more of
endorphins or happy hormones.

Weight loss options also abound in the market. There are weight
loss pills, creams and others. These can work for you as well,
but it usually has side effects you must prepare for.
Furthermore, popping weight loss pills breeds addiction and
dependence, and will not help you groom to have self-control
and discipline with your food intake=F3two major things which
will help you be in good shape for the long-term.

Those tips were for the case of those who want to lose weight
to look good. However, in the case of those bordering on an
unknown illness or becoming overboard with weight loss pills, a
potential problem presents itself. Whether you are of normal or
excessive weight in the past, if you are experiencing sudden
and irregular bouts of weight loss, it is something that needs
your doctor’s advice. Consult a health expert in such cases, so
that you may be able to determine the principal cause of
abnormal weight loss. It may be a physical or psychological
problem, so make sure it gets treated (check out
http://www.weight-loss-resources.com) and that you have a
healthy perspective on losing weight.

Acupuncture: The Accepted Treatment For Acne!

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

ting to acne are unknown. The real, definite
remedies to acne are also unknown. There is a big orchestra of
remedies to acne however. Every musician takes out a different
tune, and thinks that he is the best. Who knows who is the
best, but at every short interval, a new member is added to the
team of orchestra. Acupuncture is one of the important members
of this acne medication orchestra.

Treating acne with acupuncture is the accepted way of life,
with many acne sufferers. The dermatologists also approve of
this treatment.

Acupuncture has the support of the centuries. It has the
support of the ancient wisdom. This wisdom was originated from
China, and sustained from generation to generation.

Acupuncture, popularly known as TCM, is to treat certain parts
of the body, the joints of energy. They are also called
meridians. These joints are stimulated by inserting sharp
needles. The system is as good as clearing those joints. The
blockages in the energy flow in your body are removed. These
blockages are responsible for diseases and all sorts of
illness.

The evaluation of acupuncture has not been scientifically done,
if you talk in terms of modern science. But if you talk in terms
of the results of application of this system, the modern science
has to stand and stare. You have definite reports that two types
of acupuncture have dealt with the symptoms of acne
successfully. One of them is auricular acupuncture (acupuncture
applied to the ear) and the other one is electro acupuncture,
which uses a mild electrical current.

There are many forms of acupuncture and herbal medicine
acupuncture is one of them. Of them, two systems of herbal
medicines are popular in China: Tai Chi and Chi Kung. This
system originated in China in around 2500 BC. Western countries
were not aware of it; they were not enthusiastic about this
system of medicine till 1950. Now, they have begun to accept it
and adopt it. It is part of the western medicine now, and has
shown tremendous results.

Human body contains 59 meridians and 1000 pressure points.
People suffering from all sorts of conditions and serious
ailments like asthma, bronchitis and acne, including difficult
acne scars can be treated with acupuncture. It is very
successful in relieving pain. The treatment may not give
uniform benefits in all. The results vary from individual to
individual.

This original system, has spread and accepted all over the
world. Also, the treatment is considered free from any side
effects.

Learn About Visiting Or Moving To Spain

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

sted in moving to Spain, or even just
traveling in the country for a while, you will want to have
some basic knowledge. Spain is divided into fifty provinces.
The main large cities in Spain are: Madrid, Barcelona.
Valencia, Seville, Malaga and Bilbao. Once you decide upon
which area you are going to live in or visit, you should try to
find out as much about it as you can. Travel magazines,
newspapers and the world wide web will give you a lot of
information.

In order to enter Spain, you will need a valid passport from
your country of origin, if you are not from a country that is a
member of the European Union. Citizens of some countries may
also have to obtain a visa. If you are a citizen of a member
country of the EU, you will not need to show a passport, but
you will have to have a national identification document. In
order to find out the exact requirements in your case, you
should contact the Spanish consulate in your own country. They
will by happy to assist you in determining your requirements.

Make sure you understand the customs regulations of Spain
before you visit. You will save yourself a lot of time and
trouble if you do. You can bring your personal items, such as
cameras, jewelry, video equipment and the like without any
customs duty. Make sure you get a receipt for them upon entry.

On other items, there may be custom charges as well as limits
on how much you can bring in. Some items that are limited in
this way are cigarettes, perfume and wine. Custom duty will
apply if you are over the limit. There is no limit on the
amount of cash you can bring into Spain, regardless of whether
it is Euros or a foreign currency.

Pets can be brought into Spain, as long as they have the proper
documentation. You must be able to show a certificate of origin
and a health certificate, and any documentation indicating that
your pet has had all the necessary vaccines, especially rabies.
All of these must be signed by your vet.

In getting to know the region you are interested in traveling
to, you will find that there are different variations in the
food, depending on the region. The food of each region is
influenced by the geography and culture of that region. For
example, you can see the influence of the Moors in the use of
spices such as cumin and saffron in some of the areas’ cuisine.
The countryside peasant areas will each have rich local stews
and soups, full of the vegetables from the local farms.

In the Valencia region, Paella is the “national” dish. Its or
gins are from the Spanish Civil War. It contains local game,
fish and vegetables and, of course, rice. Paella has now
expanded beyond Valencia and everyone in Spain loves it. If you
want to get the best food in Spain, and usually the least
expensive, eat where the locals eat. Avoid touristy restaurants
and head for the small local tavernas or restaurants for food
that is fresh and good.

The currency of Spain is the Euro. It is best to exchange your
currency for Euros as soon as you arrive in the country, since
most places only accept Euros. You will certainly need Euros
for the cab or bus trip from the airport, so you should buy
some Euros at the airport. You can also exchange currency at
banks and large hotels. You should also be able to use credit
cards and travelers checks for anything but small change.

Curing Stress Vs Coping With Stress

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

avenues and techniques used for coping with
stress. Relaxation techniques, engaging in a creative activity,
a good workout, or relaxing walk. Coping, however, isn’t curing.
If you want to deal with chronic stress in an effective manner
it is necessary to get at the root cause.

Stress is generally a two pronged attack on you=D6 external and
internal=D6 essentially the two colliding factors are what has
happened and how you internalize the level of seriousness. The
sum of these two products determines what your ability to cope
is with any given situation.

Certainly life offers up many stressful events such as a lost
job, a failed marriage, a serious illness, and on and on. But,
even for these events to result in stress (especially long term
stress) any individual has to evaluate the events and themselves
in a particular way.

Self confidence and experience in handling stressful events go
a long way toward any person being much more resilient to
stress. If the person identifies situations realistically and
internally knows that they have the capability to deal with and
overcome life’s inevitable inequities; they will certainly feel
challenged (not incapacitated) – but this is a normal part of
living and in fact is quite a healthy reaction=D6 and is far from
constituting chronic stress.

In order to deal with chronic stress it is vital to have an
objective sense of the actual damage and the external factors
that come into play. Many circumstances in life involve losses
that are, at the very least, are temporarily out of our
control=D6 but situations change, wounds heal, relationships
mend, and new friends and partners are found.

Even permanent losses should not result in loss of persistence
and hope. We humans are a very resilient lot. This is not to
say that =EBtime heals all wounds’, but through thought and
effort you can cover a great distance in doing so.

When a person focuses on what is valuable and what is possible
and look beyond the stress agent then acute stress is mitigated
and when thought and effort combine with a pragmatic attitude
toward life’s personal tests and challenges, a chronic stress
invasion is all but impossible.

Unfortunate event’s happen within everyone’s life. Everything
isn’t always =EBok’ – but having a sense of realism is a major
tool for you to have. When bad situations occur it is this
realism that keeps things in perspective in that; yes bad
things happen and things truly may be =EBas bad as they seem’ -
but rarely do they have to stay that way.

Objectivity is a key characteristic in either keeping chronic
stress away or breaking the cycle. Long term stress many times
partners with or leads to depression and is in fact many times
self perpetuating=D6 you feel bad – so everything looks bad -
things look bad – so you feel even worse.

Recommitting to successes and achievement and overcoming life’s
daily challenges is essential to break the negative cycle. With
every hurdle that you overcome, you grow stronger in your
ability to get over the next one. But, getting to this in your
life takes conscious thought and most of all=D6 action. Rarely do
life’s answer come mailed special delivery right to your
doorstep.
