“Interesting,” I murmured, much calmer now, “I never thought of
it that way.”
“Here’s another law of prosperity. Whatever your talent or gift
is, give it to the world as freely and as joyfully as possible.
The more you give the more you get. You’ll find this law well
hidden or disguised in the holy books of many religions. You’ve
heard it said,`Give and it shall be given unto you.’ You cannot
outgive the Universe. Give of that which you have. Whatever
your lot in life, there are many who wish they were in your
shoes. Share whatever little you have and it will return to you
man if old, in surprising ways.”
“Some people feel that they have very little and so,they cannot
afford to be generous,” I said. “They say it’s difficult for
them to give when they themselves are struggling to survive.
What do you tell them?”
“John, if you find it difficult to share when you have very
little, believe me, you will find it ten times more difficult
to share when you have plenty. Instead of saying,`When I am
rich, I’ll give to others,’ give to others first and you’ll end
up being rich. It doesn’t need to be material things. You can
share your time, talents, attention or compassion just as you
can share your bread. A wise person once wrote a little ditty
that goes like this:
A man there was and they called him mad, The more he gave, the
more he had.
“And never give up hope. The word prosperity itself comes from
the root word `prospere,’ meaning to go forward in hope. Faith,
hope and love will help solve any problem. You don’t need faith
to have hope, but you need hope to have faith. Hope is the
enemy of fear. Fear says you’ll fail. Hope says it’s possible
that you’ll succeed. Fear says you’ll lose your job. Hope says
you’ll find a better one. Fear says time is running out. Hope
says hang in there a little while longer.”
